Clinical Interests
Exploring the ways people adapt, survive, relate, and make meaning within complex lives and systems.
My clinical interests have developed across more than two decades of work within adult mental health services, alongside ongoing research, writing, and reflective practice. While my work now increasingly focuses on neurodivergence, trauma, dissociation, and emotional regulation, these interests have emerged from a broader engagement with complexity across many areas of psychological wellbeing.
I am particularly interested in how people adapt to environments, relationships, systems, and experiences that may gradually move them away from a sustainable sense of self.
Neurodivergence & Adaptation
Interest in masking, burnout, identity, accessibility, emotional regulation, and the long-term impact of chronic adaptation to environments that do not naturally fit a person’s way of being.
Trauma & Emotional Processing
Particular interest in trauma, dissociation, chronic stress, emotional processing, and the ways distress can become embedded psychologically, relationally, and physically over time.
Systems & Meaning
Ongoing interest in communication, formulation, healthcare systems, psychological adaptation, and how people make sense of themselves within complex relational and social environments.
Selected Writing & Publications
My professional writing has explored themes including emotional processing, psychological adaptation, neurodivergence, dissociation, identity, and complexity within mental health systems.
Selected contributions include:
- Choose your words carefully: The language dilemmas of positive autistic identity and pragmatic navigation of systems — Clinical Psychology Forum (2022)
- Contributions to Working with Dissociation in Clinical Practice: Guidance for Mental Health Professionals and Multi-Disciplinary Teams (Routledge, 2026)
- Research publications relating to emotional processing in Bipolar Disorder and the psychological impact of long-term health conditions
- Earlier collaborative publications exploring psychological formulation approaches within adult mental health inpatient services
My interests continue to evolve through clinical practice, reflective work, ongoing learning, writing, and conversations with the people and communities I work alongside.
